6.3 Step 5: Write the content for pages and modules in a Word document first!

We strongly recommend that you write all your content in a Word document. There are different reasons for this, the main one being that it gives you the flexibility to draft, revise, and reorganise the material easily before uploading it to the LMS. Using a Word document also makes it easier to share it with colleagues in case you’re collaborating on the creation, or if you simply want feedback. Moreover, it serves as a central content archive in case you need to update or rebuild the course at a later date, making it more future proof.

If you organise your Word document using the same structure as your course hierarchy (modules, pages, and subtopics) and include headings, links, and notes for media or resources you plan to add in Canvas, it will make it very easy to copy the content over to Canvas. It will also help you remember the “red thread” of your course, and help you maintain a consistent style and tone across the pages.
